Do
you remember Gilligan's Island? It seemed that everything they
had was made from bamboo or coconuts. Their huts, all of the scientific
equipment the professor created, the occasional raft that would
inevitably sink…although I doubt that would ever happen in
real life given the strength and buoyancy of bamboo.
Just
like Gilligan, people around the world have found countless uses
for this sustainable fast growing material. Just some of the uses
are; acupuncture needles, aphrodisiacs, art, arrows, baskets,
brooms, bridges, building materials, cages, chop sticks, diesel
fuel, food, flutes, flooring, furniture, garden stakes, hats,
houses, looms, medicine, musical instruments, paper, rafts, ropes,

the west, we think of bamboo as strictly ornamental - and it conjures
images of "flying Tiger, Hidden Dragon" acrobatics through
