ASHA, established in 1975 as a non-profit to promote Fair Trade practices, represents more than 5,000 workers in 19 different cities and villages in India. They help small-scale handicraft cooperatives that are disadvantaged because they lack financial and marketing knowledge. Asha in Sanskrit means "Hope", and Asha has brought hope into what was largely a "hopeless" situation by providing a marketing outlet for the craft of talented artisans.
